Stronger Together: Jose and Atessa’s Personal Training Journey in Fort Worth

Stronger Together: Building Consistency, Confidence, and Strength as a Team

Jose and Atessa came to Fort Worth Strong with different reasons for starting, but they quickly discovered that training together gave them something both needed: accountability.

For Atessa, the goal was to build a routine she could maintain as she prepared for her wedding in October. She wanted to get stronger, feel more confident, and establish habits that would last beyond a single event.

For Jose, the challenge was making his own health a priority again. A demanding career and a busy schedule had made exercise easy to postpone, and he knew he needed more structure and accountability.

Training together with Coach Matt gave both of them a consistent plan, individualized coaching, and a little friendly competition along the way.

Two Different Starting Points, One Shared Goal

Atessa had tried going to the gym before, but consistency was always the problem.

“I would go to the gym, do a few exercises, and then struggle to stay consistent with my workouts.”

With her wedding approaching, she wanted something more sustainable than another short-term fitness push.

“My goal was to get stronger, feel more confident, and establish healthy habits that I could maintain long-term.”

Jose was dealing with a similar consistency problem for different reasons.

“I realized I had stopped putting my own health first.”

His schedule always seemed too busy, and a physically and emotionally demanding career made it easy for exercise to fall to the bottom of the list.

“I knew I needed accountability, structure, and someone who would help keep me consistent.”

He was also intimidated by gyms, which created another barrier to getting started.

What We Focused On

Coach Matt created a structured training routine built around upper body, lower body, and conditioning days.

For Atessa, that structure helped eliminate the uncertainty she had experienced when training on her own.

“Having set routines has helped me stay focused and improve different aspects of my overall physical health.”

Her programming also needed to account for knee issues and limited flexibility.

“Coach Matty listens to my concerns and pays close attention to my form, making adjustments when needed.”

For Jose, the biggest benefit was having a coach who could provide structure while tailoring each session to his needs.

“Having a coach who keeps me accountable, pushes me when I need it, and tailors workouts to where I’m at has helped me stay consistent.”

Instead of wondering what to do, or whether to train at all, they could simply show up and work the plan.

The Results

Atessa’s progress has shown up both inside and outside the gym.

“I feel stronger every day.”

Tasks that once felt difficult, like carrying a 25-pound bag of cat litter upstairs, now feel easy.

She has also noticed changes in her body, less stress, and perhaps her favorite measurable accomplishment:

“I can do a chin-up!”

For Jose, the biggest result has been consistency.

“I feel stronger, healthier, and more energetic.”

Just as importantly, his relationship with the gym has completely changed.

“I actually enjoy going to the gym now, which is something I never thought I’d say.”

Both have moved from seeing exercise as something they were trying to fit into life to something that is now part of their routine.

Building Accountability Into the Schedule

One of Jose’s biggest changes was deciding that workouts could no longer be treated as optional.

“The biggest change has been treating my workouts as non-negotiable appointments instead of something I’d do only if I had time.”

That mindset helped exercise become part of his schedule rather than an afterthought.

Atessa found similar value in having someone beside her.

“Having a gym partner keeps me accountable and has been invaluable to my success.”

Together, they created another layer of accountability that extended beyond Coach Matt.

If one person showed up ready to work, the other had a reason to do the same.

The Advantage of Training With a Partner

One of the most enjoyable parts of their experience has been the friendly competition.

Atessa describes herself as competitive, and having Jose beside her gives her an extra reason to push.

“Having a training partner motivates me to work harder and push myself further.”

Her favorite part has been discovering what her body is capable of.

Jose sees the same benefit.

“Our workouts have become so much more fun because we encourage each other while also pushing each other to work a little harder.”

That dynamic turns accountability into something positive.

Instead of simply feeling obligated to train, they have someone to share the experience with.

“It makes showing up something I genuinely look forward to.”

Overcoming Gym Intimidation

For Jose, one of the biggest hurdles was simply feeling comfortable in a gym.

“I was genuinely intimidated by gyms before joining.”

That changed quickly at Fort Worth Strong.

“Everyone has been so welcoming and supportive that it quickly started to feel like a place where I belonged.”

Atessa found the coaching environment equally important.

Knowing that Coach Matt was paying attention to her form, limitations, and progress made it easier to challenge herself without feeling like she had to figure everything out alone.

For both of them, the smaller training environment helped make fitness feel more approachable and personal.

Learning to Prioritize Health

Both Jose and Atessa had to move past the idea that fitness would somehow happen when life became less busy.

Jose’s career in veterinary medicine often makes it easy to put everyone else’s needs before his own.

“Balancing work with taking care of myself has been my biggest challenge.”

Atessa’s challenge was simply getting started and staying with it.

Personal training provided the structure both had been missing.

Over time, showing up became less dependent on motivation and more dependent on routine.

That shift is what allowed them to make meaningful progress.

Their Advice for Someone Thinking About Starting

Atessa keeps her advice simple:

“Do it. You never know what you’re capable of until you have someone pushing you to reach your full potential.”

For someone considering training with a partner, she adds:

“Give it a try. It’s amazing what having an accountability partner can help you accomplish.”

Jose sees personal training as an investment.

“It’s one of the best investments you can make in yourself.”

For anyone struggling with consistency or feeling intimidated by the gym, he believes having the right coach and environment can completely change the experience.
