Building Strength in a Demanding Career: Priya’s Story

When Priya first came to Fort Worth Strong, she simply wanted to move pain free again and was hopeful our team could help after reading the positive reviews and stories written about our program.

As an interventional cardiologist, her work is physically demanding in ways most people never see. Long procedures, heavy lead aprons, unpredictable hours, travel, poor sleep, and constant stress had taken a toll on her body over time.

By her mid-30s, she noticed things changing.

“I had an injury. I noticed that work was hurting my body more. And I knew I had to make a change, but I didn’t really know how to be consistent.”

That search for consistency and a smarter way to train, eventually led her to begin her personal training journey with Coach Zack.

Starting Point

For years, Priya struggled with the same cycle many busy professionals experience: periods of motivation followed by inconsistency.

“I had been training inconsistently on and off for the last 15 years.”

Her profession made things even more difficult.

As an interventional cardiologist, she regularly wears heavy lead aprons during procedures, sometimes for hours at a time while bent over patients.

“It’s non-ergonomic. And we’ve never really been taught how to protect our bodies.”

Over time, the physical demands of her work started affecting her mobility, her back, and her overall quality of life.

Her biggest goal was simple:

“Functional mobility and being able to walk again without hurting.”

What We Focused On

Because Priya’s schedule is constantly changing, flexibility became a major part of the plan.

Most weeks, she trains three to four times per week, with occasional virtual sessions added in while traveling for work.

The focus was not just on hard workouts, it was about building a sustainable system she could realistically maintain long term.

Key priorities included:

  • Improving mobility and movement quality
  • Building strength without aggravating injuries
  • Supporting recovery from work-related stress and fatigue
  • Increasing protein intake and improving nutrition habits
  • Creating consistency despite an unpredictable schedule

One of the biggest breakthroughs came through nutrition.

“I always thought I ate very healthy, but I wasn’t getting enough protein even though I thought I was.”

After adjusting her nutrition and increasing protein intake, including adding more fish into her meals, she began seeing measurable changes in body composition.

“It was the first time I saw my muscle mass go up and my body fat go down. It was super exciting.”

The Results

The biggest improvements have shown up in everyday life.

“I can walk without hurting. I can do cases without hurting. I can lift a big bag of dog food and dump it into the bin without second guessing whether I can do it.”

Those moments may seem small, but for Priya, they represented something much bigger: freedom and confidence.

She also noticed improvements while traveling, including carrying luggage through airports and even hiking with heavy bags during trips to Guatemala.

“I didn’t know these things were accessible to me, but they are.”

For many adults looking for strength training in Fort Worth, this is what real progress looks like, moving through life with less hesitation and more capability.

Learning To Train Sustainably

One of the biggest lessons during the process was learning that progress is not linear.

Travel, sleep deprivation, stress, and demanding work schedules still create difficult days.

“I think we expect our bodies to be the same every single day.”

Instead of forcing perfection, the coaching process focused on meeting her where she was each day while still moving forward.

“And I think the mental coaching part of what you do is so valuable because you meet me where I am and make it accessible for where I am today.”

That approach from her coach helped her build something she struggled with for years: sustainability.

“I think had I been doing this by myself, I probably would have given up. And I think that’s actually why I gave up every other time.”

The Community Difference

Another unexpected benefit was the environment itself.

At first, Priya felt intimidated walking into a gym environment.

“You come into a gym like this and you’re like, ‘Oh my gosh, there’s so much stuff. There’s so many people.’”

That feeling changed quickly.

“I met Nick, I met Zack, and I was like, ‘These guys are really cool and supportive.’ Then I met other clients and realized we’re all on similar journeys.”

Over time, the accountability and community became part of the motivation.

“I love seeing everyone’s progress. It makes me feel like I want to be that person as well.”

Even outside the gym, friendships and accountability continued through messages, social media, and shared experiences.

“Misery loves company. But it’s actually not misery. It’s really fun.”

Advice for Someone Thinking About Starting

“Don’t hesitate. Just come in and have a conversation.”

For Priya, the hardest part was simply taking the first step.

“Send the email on the website, show up, meet people, talk to people, and I think you’ll be so much better off because you did it.”
